If you are travelling to Bergen and need to get from the city centre to the Bergen Airport/Bergen Lufthavn (BGO), there are a few options available. In this blog post, we will share our experience of taking the Bergen Light Rail.
Transportation Options
There are several transportation options available to get to and from Bergen Airport/Bergen Lufthavn:
- Bergen Light rail line 1 (Bybanen)
- Airport bus (Flybussen)
- Taxi
- Private transfer
We opted for the first option as it was the most convenient and cost-efficient. Additionally, we did not have to buy extra tickets as our 24h transport ticket in Bergen had not expired.

Finding the right stop
The Bergen Light Rail has several stops throughout the city, including Bergen Central Station, Strømgaten, and Markeveien. We were staying near Bergen Central Station so that was our natural option. The trains are easy to spot and we just had to follow our Google Maps to find the train station.

Comfortable ride
The train was modern and the ride was comfortable. The route to the airport was very scenic at some points as it leaves Bergen, where you can see some of the houses built on the foot the mountains in Bergen.

Arrival at the airport
The journey to the airport took approximately 45 minutes. We were pleased to find that the tram was on time and ran smoothly. When we arrived at Bergen Airport, we were just a short walk away from the terminal. We followed the signs and was at the airport in no time.
Conclusion
Taking the Bergen Light Rail was an excellent experience. It was convenient, affordable, and efficient. We definitely recommend it to anyone travelling to Bergen and looking for a hassle-free way to get to the airport.
